Just like the advice to “shop your closet” for unexpected treasures instead of buying something new, smart leaders will look to the talent they’ve already found to solve these long-term labor challenges.Recently speaking with a professional in the retail industry, I learned that this idea is being adopted (manually) to fill gaps in their schedules during peak season and busy holidays. Instead of taking the time to onboard and train a new employee for 1-2 weeks, they strategically look to use those past employees who already have the skills for the job. This isn't limited to retail- this could be widely adopted across other industries to address similar challenges including Manufacturing and Healthcare.
