We definitely love Mexican cuisine, and nothing gets us more excited than to think of a new way to combine this with a great steak. Hence this recipe uses some of the best Mexican seasonings, sirloin, and a homemade pico de gallo that combine to create Paleo-Mexican perfection.

In this recipe, you’ll be combining ingredients for your homemade salsa, then quickly grilling up your steak after seasoning. The zesty and refreshing pico de gallo really helps balance out the spiciness of the steak.

The total prep and cook time for this dish is about 35 minutes, making it perfect for weeknights when you want a hearty meal without dedicating too much time to putting out dinner. You can save even more time before your meal if you prep your pico de gallo in advance – it can easily be refrigerated for the day if needed.

The focus of this dish is the sirloin steak, which is a pricier cut of beef that offers a ton of nutritional benefits. All beef contains a multitude of micronutrients, including niacin, Vitamin B12, and zinc, among others. Although the price may dissuade you, definitely consider investing in grass-fed beef for additional nutrition and the knowledge that your beef has been ethically sourced.

When considering what to serve this dish with, try grilling up some vegetables alongside your steak for a quick and simple dinner. We really like this grilled zucchini and leeks dish – try omitting the herb dressing and topping this with your extra pico de gallo. Or, to stay within the Mexican flavors, this Mexican baked zucchini would be delicious as well.

Made it without the onion or red chili powder and was great! I might try adding the red chili powder next time. Cumin is a great touch (makes it smell great too)
