2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (2024)

Jump to Recipe

A 2-ingredient bagel is delicious, chewy, and easy to make for breakfast or an afternoon snack. These delicious treats are about as close to the “real” thing as you can get.

Regular or Gluten-Free Bagel

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (1)

You can make these bagels with regular ingredients or make them gluten-free. Since I’m sensitive to gluten, I go with the gluten-free option.

My husband can eat anything he wants, and he likes them gluten-free. However, it really doesn’t matter how you make them because they’re good either way.

“Real” vs. “Mock” Bagels

Someone from New York might point out that these aren’t real bagels. And they’re correct.

I admit that they’re actually “mock” bagels. That’s because I don’t boil them before baking them.

Although they’re somewhat chewy, they’re not quite as chewy as one you’ll get from a New York bakery.

However, I like these just as much. In fact, I might even give these an edge over the real thing because they’re so easy to make and just as satisfying.

And I don’t have to go to New York to get one. Granted, I enjoy visiting New York, but sometimes I want to enjoy a bagel at home.

2-Ingredient Bagel Ingredients

There are only two ingredients necessary to make these delicious bagels. And both of them are easy to find in any grocery store.

You’ll need baking mix (Bisquick or Live G-Free baking mix from Aldi) and Greek yogurt.

Get either the fat-free or the full-fat version. I’ve tried both, and I can’t tell the difference.

If you want any type of topping, you’ll also need an egg and whatever topping you want.

This time, I chose the “everything bagel” seasoning.

Other toppings you might like are cinnamon sugar, garlic butter, or any kind of frosting. However, the frosting will make them more like chewy donuts.

For exact measurements of each ingredient and full directions, go to the recipe card at the bottom of the page. You can even print out the card by using the “print” button.

How to Make a 2-Ingredient Bagel

You’ll be blown away by how easy these bagels are to make. The only thing you’ll need is the time to mix and then knead them.

Also, if you want a topping, it takes a whopping 2 minutes to add it. You can’t get any easier than that!

Then the oven will do the rest of the work. First, preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Next, line your baking sheet with either parchment paper or a silicone mat. This time, I used a mat because it’s so easy.

So then, you need to measure the baking mix and pour it into a medium-size mixing bowl.

Add the Greek yogurt and stir. You can use a dough blender, but it’s really not necessary. I use a spoon.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (5)

After you have it all mixed, put your spoon or dough blender aside and use your hands.

Knead the dough until it all comes together in a big ball of dough.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (6)

Sprinkle either some flour or baking mix onto a smooth surface and transfer the dough to that.

Knead it for another 5 minutes.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (7)

Next, form a ball with the dough and cut it into 6 equal parts.

Each part will eventually be a bagel.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (8)

There are 2 ways to form the bagels.

You can roll the dough into long ropes and join the ends together.

Or you can roll each section into a ball, flatten it out, and press your thumb through the center to form the hole.

Either way works, so choose whichever one is easier for you.

I actually prefer to use the second method.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (11)

Place all of the bagels on the baking pan.

Make sure you leave a couple of inches between each one.

2-Ingredient Bagel Topping

If you choose to add a topping, you’ll need to brush the tops of the bagels with an egg wash.

I make this by whisking an egg with a tablespoon of water.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (13)

Using a pastry brush, cover the top of each bagel with a thin coating of the egg wash.

This gives the bagels a slight glaze and helps the toppings stick.

Then sprinkle the topping over it.

However, if you choose to use frosting, you’ll need to wait until after they’ve been baked and cooled.

Baking Your Bagels

Now you’ve finished your part of the process, and it’s time for the oven. Put the pan of bagels in the oven and bake for 20 minutes.

If you want the bagels a little browner after they’re done, turn the oven up to 425 and bake for another 5 minutes.

2-Ingredient Bagel Recipe (16)

After they’ve finished baking, remove the pan from the oven and let the bagels rest for 5-10 minutes before eating them.

I normally prefer savory bagels more than sweet ones. For that reason, I used everything bagel seasoning on the ones I made for this post.

These bagels are delicious and super easy to make!

Prep Time15 minutes

Cook Time20 minutes

Total Time35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups of baking mix
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt
  • 1 egg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon of water (optional)

Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Cover baking sheet with silicone mat or parchment paper.
    2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the baking mix with the yogurt. Mix well.
    3. Turn the mixture out onto a floured surface. Knead the dough by hand until it is smooth.
    4. Form the dough into a ball. Divide it into 6 equal parts.
    5. Roll each part of the dough into ropes. Join the ends of each rope to form the bagels. Another way to form the bagel is to roll each section into a ball, flatten it, and press a hole in the center with your thumb.
    6. Place the uncooked bagels on the covered baking sheet.
    7. If you want to add a topping to the bagels, brush each one with an egg wash made from an egg and a tablespoon of water that you’ve whisked together to prepare it for the topping.
    8. Sprinkle whatever topping you like on the bagel. I like a small amount of the Everything Bagel seasoning.
    9. Place the baking sheet in the oven and cook for 20 minutes.
    10. If you want a more golden brown crust on the bagels, turn the oven up to 425 degrees F and bake for an additional 5 minutes. Keep a close eye on them to make sure they don’t burn.
    11. Cool for 5 minutes before eating.

Notes

You can use self-rising flour in place of the baking mix if you prefer. However, if you need to make a gluten-free version, the baking mix is much easier to work with.
